  • Why would the insurance owe for my roof?
If your roof sustains damage from a hail storm, the hail impacts the shingle and during this process it bruises or causes the granules to detach from the shingle. The granules are adhered to the shingle to prevent UV light from the sun from drying out the asphalt that makes up the shingle. If the asphalt dries out it will crack and if this occurs then the shingle will possibly leak in the future and void the Manufactures warranty. For this reason alone is why your insurance owes to replace your shingles. Your shingles have been compromised and void the warranty at this time and should be replaced.

  • Should I upgrade my shingles to a 30yr or more?
H&R’s position on this is that a 30 yr laminated shingle is the best value for the money. It offers the most protection for the money spent. A 30yr laminated shingle is basically 2 30 yr shingles that are laminated or glued together. This process actually make the shingle a double thickness on almost 50% of the shingle and really makes the shingle twice as durable as a standard 25 3tab and in our experience when compared side by side with a 3 tab shingle it holds up approximately 70 % better when hail impacts the roof as compared to standard shingles.
